Am I doing something wrong?

Okay, so I've downloaded and been playing the new Starship Troopers demo.. Playing at 1280 x 1024, with all the settings on high, with soft shadows I average 30fps.. without soft shadows, it's about the same, maybe 35fps..

However, at 1024 x 768, settings on high, soft shadows on, and 4x AA from the drivers.. I'm only getting like 20fps during scenes with a few characters, and some motion.. It goes up to around 50fps, when I'm just running around, nothing's really happening..

Aren't these rates a little slow? Am I doing something wrong, or is it the game..

System specs:
AMD64 3800+ Newcast;e
DFI NF4 Ultra-D
MSI NX7800GTX
1gb OCZ Dual Channel Gold (2-2-2-5)
OCZ 520W Modstream

Any ideas?

what engine is this game based on?

also im thinking that maybes soft shadows and AA at the same time produce abit too much of a performance hit? think ill download the demo my self

Yeah, turning off the AA brought it back up about 30fps, runs at about 50 - 60fps during action scenes now, 80 otherwise.. Like in FEAR, the heavy use of dust, and the blurring effects really ravage the gpu's..

That demo is evil. Its a joke. There is also terrible mouse lag mated with the lousey frame rates & it stutters. I was reading a forum post with lots of members reporting low fps so its proberbly down to the terrible coding. It also crashed my box.

Its beyond me why they can release something like this even if it is a demo.

Maybe its because you only have 1gb of ram? Not sure, I haven't heard much about the game, but maybe its a memory monster like BF2.
