Am I doing something wrong? USB header (K7S5A)

I have an ECS K7S5A and an extra USB port (x2) addon which came with my MSI K7T266. So far this has not worked with the ECS (no USB devices will connect to the addon) - is there any way I could rearrange the wires on the header to make it work on my ECS? Or am I doing something wrong in the BIOS maybe?

The wire order is Black - Black - Green - White - Red , which seems to be the same as the Belkin addon.

From the K7S5A FAQ at ocworkbench.com (here)

10. How do I connect the extra USB ports?

The K7S5A has a header for connecting two extra USB ports, but you need to buy an extra cable. The cable should have two USB ports on one end and a motherboard connector on the other. You also need to know what each pin connects to:

1 --- 2 Red (+ 5V)
3 --- 4 White ( -- Data)
5 --- 6 Green ( + Data)
7 --- 8 Black/Gray (Ground)
9 --- Black/Gray (Ground) or not connected

You can find the pinout for K7S5A Header Here on the ECS website.

Compare the pinout to that on your MSI K7T266 to determine how to hook up your USB Ports.

As silly as it sounds, make sure you don't conect the USB Cable to the Front Audio Header on the K7S5A. I did this by mistake the first time around, as it has the same number of pins. Took me a little while to figure out, and I found the USB Header works much better.

The "USB Function Support" must also be enabled in the BIOS.

Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestions. It looks to me like the USB pinouts are the same for both motherboards, and my only thought is that the USB header itself is broken. Though the standard USB ports work perfectly themselves... ( ? )

I picked up an Antec Easy USB adapter at CompUSA for about $15.00, and it works with well with my K7S5A.

It is convenient having a couple of ports in front.

Good Luck,
