As im sure some of you know, i recently put in my 2 weeks notice at my current job and just got hired today at circuit city.....

Here's the prob;

1) Current Job - 25k a year, 50+ hours a week
2) Circuit City - $8.50/hr, 30-40hrs a week (Part Time), Employee Discount

The reason im quitting my current job is the hours can totally suck sometimes (9-10-11 hour days), and i dont get paid for working all those extra hours. The problem is that Circuit City pays roughly $3.50/hour less than my current job, and the hours arent guaranteed.....

As for the future, im going to be attending law school next fall, so long term isnt really a factor...

What would you do?

If you can make ends meet with the CC job keep that one since it seems like you'll like it better.

well, that's a huge pay cut, and it'll be even worse once you start making use of that discount (unless you supplement your income with buying and reselling stuff). but if you don't need that extra $10k for this year and you have other things you want to spend your time doing... well, you're not going to be overloaded on free time once you start law school

Sounds like Circuit City is the lesser of two evils. You made the right choice.

If you can live on the CC pay without resorting to living paycheck to paycheck, I think you should go with CC. It sounds like you are real unhappy at your current job, and thats a waste. Theres nothing fun about dreading the next work day.

Is your current job offering you experience that would look good on your resume for your future career? If it is, then its a bit tougher choice I think, since it is only short term and it might benefit you a lot.

I think it really depends on 1) how much you need the money and similarily 2) how important the extra time is to you.

If you want to take it a little easy before law school, I would go with Circuit City and deal with less income...but if that extra money (around 10,000?) is going to stress you out, maybe you should look for something else...

do you get commission at circuit city? maybe that would help...

I should be able to make ends meet just fine with the CC job... Luckily im living with my girlfriend and we split all our expenses (comes to roughly $500-550/month for everything) and if need by my dad said he can lend me some money if i need it (which i dont anticipate i will).

This is all about 4 things, and you need to prioritize them.

1. Which job do you like better?
2. Where will you make the most money?
3. Which job will give you more time to do the other things that you want/need to do (study, etc.)
4. Which job will be better experience once you are finished with school and looking for a real job.

1. Job 2
2. Job 1

4. Job 1

The only rule of working is that you need to do what makes you happy.

Some people work jobs they hate because they love the paychecks, and others work jobs they love because they don't mind the paychecks. The one thing you should never do is work a job where you hate both the job AND the paychecks.
