Don't supercharge. The extra $15,000 to do it right puts you into the driver seat of a faster car that is already supercharged and has a factory 5 year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. And that's a SRT Hellcat Charger.

I agree with your idea but in reality the demand for these beasts is far outstripping the supply and some dealers have been taking deposits for cars they will not be able to delver for many months or at all, if you want one I'd wait a year, by then a lot of people will realize they bought a car they cannot handle and they will be available at a steep discount.http://www.cnbc.com/id/102473767

I was seriously interested in one but the local dealer thought that this car was some sort of holy grail and wouldn't let me test drive it, nor would they offer anything less than $1500 over sticker. I went with a Charger instead. I got the 3.06 rear axle and it's performance is quite close to the SS.

And what, spend $30k on handling mods just to make that Hellcat handle on a similar ballpark as the Chevy SS?

What kind of "handling mods" would one buy for a hellcat that would cost $30K?, the Hellcat is a large sedan and Dodge made it with a good suspension that's fully adjustable and comes with Bilstein shocks. At the end of the day however 707HP is going to overwhelm any street chassis they could have put in it.

I would assume more than the usual handling mods since the SRT it's still saddled by a very heavy and old chassis. As tests shows the hellcat is quite a bit slower around a road course than even the 2014 Chevrolet SS.

It would be much cheaper to get the SS to the same power levels as the hellcat, than it would be for the hellcat to handle as well as the Chevrolet SS.

There is no "mod" to fix what the Hellcat is, it's an extremely powerful but heavy sedan, no "mod" is going to defy the laws of physics.

Charger Hellcat weighs about 500 pounds more than the SS. C&D has the SS at .97G on the skidpad, and the Charger at .94G.

0-100 for the Charger Hellcat was just 7.2 seconds versus 10.7 for the SS.

Jesus fuck that's fast! I predict a LOT of serious accidents will happen with the Hellcat.

The Hellcat handles just fine. Don't listen to the anti-Chrysler troll. Unless you're going to try and race slalom, you will not be at any disadvantage in that car.

The reality is supercharging means if something really grenades on you, which is quite possible with non-OEM engineered superchargers you slap on, you have to be ready for the repercussions. I appreciate that there's plenty of experience out there in terms of the engine in the SS. I'm just sharing my opinion which is that I prefer a factory supercharger over a third-party install which would end up costing me more in the long run for less performance. Plus it's not stock and the resale value is diminished.

Crazy like a fox. Really nice car. GM addressed the one main shortcoming of the G8: Interior.

I've ridden and driven best buddies G8 quite a bit. So much better handling and road feel than a Charger/Challenger. Nothing wrong with the Dodges but the G8 has a very BMW like approach to corners. I likey. Alot.

The powertrain is a modders wet dream, you are clearly a true enthusiast, and you've got the coin. So what are you waiting for?

I would have to wait. I have a side job coming up that will give me some mod money. I would be too busy working my day job and working the side job. It would probably be around the end of May before I get the car. Gives me plenty of time to think it through.

Dude, they are bringing back the Buick Grand National next year. Not much info on them yet but I'd wait to see what they are about.

IMO, look at a used CTS-V. Since warranty isn't a concern, a used one could be had for less with lower miles. The LSA is upgraded to handle boost and a good platform to build on. Have two friends with 1000hp + cars on the stock bottom end. The one was around 1200 rwhp, but was tuned back after his last 1/2 mile event.

Mine was even at 600 rwhp from 5k - 38k miles when I sold it and not a single issue. 4 door, Recaros, moonroof, microfiber and was listed for $38k for reference.

We talking American version of Australian Holden right?

I think people would be crazy NOT to get one. That's an amazing car.

I can't even imagine thinking about getting M5 or MB AMG as long as this car exists. Even if the numbers completely sway the competition.

How can one not love 4 doors and SBC in an affordable car.

Heck, I will go as far as saying, price this car right up there with M5 and I would still take the Chevy SS. Keep in mind I don't have deep pockets, work on all my cars and fix them/maintain them.

My wife already has a 2012 CTS. Granted, it's not a V. It's the 4. It's a daily driver and great in the snow. I drive it to and from work two to three days a week. If we didn't already have a CTS, I'd probably consider a used CTS-V.

It'll be 9 years next month since I bought it. I posted it for sale. We'll see how that goes.

The SS is an amazing car. And rare. I have never seen one in real life. Would love to own an SS some day.
