Am I cracking enough keys for RC5?

I'm getting like 700 or so blocks daily. Does that seem low for one client which runs on a T-bird 800 MHz (not O/C'ed)? I assume the trick is to O/C? Or perhaps run clients on multiple computers? If so, is it just as easy to set up clients on other computers (i.e. just download, fill in e-mail w/ current address, and let her rip)? I'm sure I can find some idle computers on campus. 🙂

A 800Mhz TBird would give about 875 WU per day. That's assuming full CPU time. So 700 WU is ok. Make sure you've disabled any OpenGL screen savers you have.

Yes, simply download the client, fill in the e-mail and your other personalised settings like the work unit treshold, buffer checking, preferred packet size, load work preference, keyserver (if you're using a proxy).

You did sign up for TeamAnandtech for the particular e-mail that you're using did you?

Roddd, you are correct in saying that BIG cracking numbers require multiple computers. Anybody turning in 1000 or more blocks per day has their e-mail address on more than one computer. Some cracking demons have hundreds going. Friends, relatives, neighbors; all are prime targets for asslamination.

Your desire to produce more blocks for the team is highly appreciated. As Curt mentioned above, please ask permission when attempting to install the client on machines that you do not own or manage.

700 blocks is about right for your computer. To maximize your output, turn off screensaver or change it to blank screen. You might consider disabling any utilities that did not came with your OS, like Norton Crashguard, etc.

Here's a little mental exercise for you...
Go through your e-mail list. Make a list of all those people. (you already know they have computers)
Then, add to it all the other people you know with a computer - this includes everyone at work, and especially the SysAdmin.
Become very familiar with all aspects of the rationale behind RC5.
Ask every one of them to help you by donating spare CPU cycles that they weren't using anyway.
Don't stop until you reach the bottom

When you reach the bottom, do it over again. You'll find you've made new friends.
Ask every one of them to do the same thing.

Be fruitful, and multiply. TACube started with Russ, then I joined him. We now have no idea how many computers are cracking under TACube. (we can guess) but the bottom line is 40 integrals (with literally hundreds of others within their herds)

Don't be satisfied with your stats... EVER. Recruit, and teach others to recruit. This is, and always has been the key to success. Every new person should add five more. Statistically speaking, this goal should be a piece of cake. - an exponential equation will easily show that this isn't, and never has happened on any regular basis. Do the math... 🙂 Be fruitful, and MULTIPLY!

Welcome aboard 🙂

I seem to have this problem (stats addiction) that makes me feel that no matter how many blocks I'm cracking it's not enough. 😉

I started out June of 1999 doing about 25 blocks a day on a 486DX/66. since then I've added to my herd quite a bit, and I am doing quite a lot more than that, and yet it isn't enough. I keep looking for friends to assimilate, upgrades to do at work, spare parts to convert to crack rack cows, and on an on.

Not that this stuff is addictive or anything, I can quit anytime I want. Why just yesterday I quit 10 times... 😉

If each of us cracks to his or her abilities and available resources, and looks for ways to help the team stay #1, then we are doing enough! 😀

jinsonxu: Of course I'm working for TA! To do for someone else would be blasphemy. 🙂

Thanks for the advice and tips fellas!
