Am I chasing the white whale? Can I get all this for $10k?

Since my Audi A6 2.7T is possibly on the outs, I am trying to figure out what to replace it with. Is there a 4dr AT car that is fun to drive, reliable, has less than 50k miles on it that I can get for 10k? I can up the figure a bit for something good.

Ford Fusion. It won't have the power or the style / luxury you're used to, but it is 4 door, both the V6 and the I4 have autos as options, they've proven to be reliable, and they ARE fun to drive. Best of all, you can easily get a 1-2 year old Fusion with 30-50k miles for somewhere in the 10-13k range.

About 3-4 months ago, I paid $14k for my 2008 V6 SE with 26k miles. And I even think I overpaid by a grand or so.

Maybe a 2003 V6 Altima or a slightly older Maxiama.

Also a 2001 Lexus IS300 will be in that price range, whill will be, for all intents and purposes, bulletproof.

Fusion V6 or Mazda 6 V6. Yeah they're FWD commuter sedans which should be boring and terrible to drive by definition, but honestly they're cheap 4d sedans more geared towards "drivers" (as in, 'thats a drivers car) than hum-drum motoring that makes you want to shoot yourself like a toyota or honda

Subaru Legacy. If you liked the A6, it's similar in size and space, you'll maintain AWD and it can be had in turbo if you want to stretch the budget by a few G's. The downsides are obviously related to the step down you'd be taking in class. The interior isn't what the Audi's is (hell, few cars will have as great of an interior in that price range, for that matter) and the car won't feel as solid. But make no mistake, the 05+ Legacy's are solid performers.

Yea a V6 Altima or maybe a Maxima.

Also look for 2004 CTS with the 3.6L motor. Can take parts from a CTS-V and there is a decent size aftermarket as well.

One white whale, only $3,995:

I recently bought a 2008 Fusion for under 11K (only had 5800 miles on it), but they actually have come UP in book price since I bought mine (February). For some driving fun, look for a

Fusion with the Sport Package

The tuned suspension really does make the car handle much better (wish mine came had it). Then you can buy a few under-hood add-ons from Steeda Autosports to sqeeze out a few extra horses from the V6.

Wait, you want to spend $10K get sporty driving and have luxury? You can have those at that price, but reliability goes out the window.

I'd rock that caprice in a heart beat.

I second the IS300 as I am trying to find one myself, but in my area its hard to find one in that year at 50,000 mi. But that car is bulletproof and dont mind buying one with up to 120,000 mi.
