Am I being unreasonable?

CLIFF NOTES:

- I have a weekly column in a student newspaper (it's political of a right-of-center nature)

- This week, my editor screwed up my column's headline and instead of making it "big government, big problems", she made it "equalize this, commie bitches"

- Also this week, my picture at a dance event was put in the paper without my permission and despite the fact that I asked that it be removed (embarassing)

- The picture and column were near an article about the company I work for, Sybase.

- That article was written by a "special" writer who covered the Sybase event.

- This "special" writer figured out that I work for sybase and asked me tons of questions, even took notes while I talked. He went on to e-mail me with more questions and creepy personal comments despite the fact that I declined to give him my email. (He looked it up.)

- This "special" writer who wrote the Sybase article then mailed a bunch of copies of this week's student newspaper with his article, my unwanted dance picture and my "equalize this, commie bitches" headline to about ten people at Sybase who I work with either directly and indirectly, including me.

- The papers had his name and phone number on them and said "see Sybase article, page 3/4"

- This person sent me an email this morning saying if I was not "famous" at Sybase yet, I would now be "imfamous" due to said picture and article.

Is this harassment or is he just really trying to get a job here at Sybase (trying way, way too hard)?

I don't know this guy from dirt... the first time I saw him was at the newspaper's office when he was writing the article just two days ago.

Wtf is he on? 😕

I'd kick his fvcking a$$, take a picture and stick it in the student newspaper with "PWNED!" as the headline, then mail that to everyone he knows.

The picture (from a semi-formal dance) was unrelated to my column (which is weekly) which was unrelated to his article (a one time thing) except that they are all in the same newspaper.

I'd just document as much as I could about the situation, then forget about it unless stalker-guy does something else. I'd guess he was just impressed with his own cleverness at figuring out your "secret identity" and if you ignore him he'll go away.

Sounds like you can't handle being a minor celebrity. I'd recommend you stop writing for the paper if it's too much for you.

I can handle it normally... (been publishing for a while)... but this week's paper had the embarassing mistakes I talked about, and the fact that this guy distributed to my coworkers... that's really what I'm looking for feedback on.

You're absolutely right, when I publish something, I have to be prepared to stand up for it.

This is really the merger of two things... one, what I wanted to publish and what did get published didn't match this week and two, there's this creepy stalker guy sending said unwanted publications to my coworkers.

What a douche... just straight up tell your coworkers the situation and in the end it'll all come out clean.

Seriously. Typos are "screw-ups". That's in a whole new category.

Is there any kind of relationship between your editor and the 'stalker' dude? Sure seems like alot of unlikey and strange coincidences coming together at once...

That's messed up. Get a friend and confront him. Ask him why the hell is he doing all this crap.

The "commie bitches" thing was put in there as a first draft headline. We often do things like that on production night to be funny and they get changed before publication. Like for a letter to the editor we might put "some dork's letter" and them come up with a title later.

This time, though, it didn't get changed before production despite my checking and double checking it with the editor.
