Am I being unreasonable for asking for some sort of parking?

So, I work as a Community Assistant for a private apartment complex affiliated with my university; the main part of our job is being on call when the office is closed (and enforcing the terms of the lease), along with activities once a month, office hours, and some writing for a complex newsletter.

This last year we had parking provided by the complex - four spots, out of one-hundred and thirty; parking is also provided for the manager and the assistant manager. Apparently my boss was recently asked by her superior why we were not paying for parking, she said she had assumed that it was provided for us as well, turns out it's not, so once our new contract starts in July we'll have to start paying for parking, $65 a month.

So, I'm thinking of writing a letter stating a case for some sort of discount on parking (not asking for free parking, as I realize that was a flat-out mistake and I'm grateful for having received it), seeing as how having it gives us more mobility. Add to this the fact we don't have food money provided, and most of us have to have a second job in order to, well, buy food. I guess it seems rather odd that this wouldn't be provided, given the nature of our position and our roles within the apartment complex.

Am I being unreasonable by pressing for this? I'll drop it if need be, but I'd at least like a chance to discuss it with the powers-that-be.

Cheers!
Nate

Sounds like you need to find a new job. I mean even where I go to school something like that is almost unheard of.

Something like a Community Assistant or one that charges so much for parking?

Why are you even working there if the pay is so low you need to get a second job just for food money?

'Cuz it's relatively easy and it's still better pay (paid rent) than I'd get anywhere else. I can subsist off of ramen if need be.

Try it, you never know what can happen until you try, buy don't be suprised if they brush you off.
Employee parking is not something that you can take for granted, but nevertheless you should give it a shot.

If you are living and working in the same apartment complex, then I think it's a fair request that you be asked to pay for parking like the rest of the tenants.

If the only reason for paying $65/mo. is to work at that location (you live elsewhere), then I'd lean towards finding a different job.
