Am I being too offensive?

I was taking photos today and the chick who was doing the stuff for me (making sure I looked alright for the photos) was talking to the photographer about how she feels so short (obviously talking about how I'm tall) and so I jokingly place my water bottle above her head and said, "Awesome, You'd make an Excellent End Table". I don't know if that went with her so well.. Now I'm asking atot, while she may not have taken that joke very lightly, would you have? (Assuming you're short?) Should anyone have not been offended by it? I'm just wondering, I was just being silly but I'm wondering if anyone who is short would be bothered by that or not...

Depends on how well you know her. If you had just met her, i wouldn't say it was offensive, but it was rude.

At least you admit you're being offensive.
Now we need to figure out why you must be offensive to someone that did nothing to you.
Make a poll:
Q. Why Is Philippine Mango offensive?
A. He has a small pp
A. He is a jerk

I didn't meet her just then and there. I had already been talking to her for the past half hour so....

You blew any chance you had with that girl. I think the real question to answer for yourself is why you felt compelled to insult her in such a way. The insult isn't the reference to her height, its the notion that she serve as an end table for you. Very, VERY rude and very VERY arrogant. Apologise, and then try not ever to talk to her again in the future lest she file a restraining order against you for harrassment.

It depends on the person. If she knows that there was no malicious intent behind the comment it should be fine. There was someone at the Walmart I worked at who always talked about being short, but she'd joke about it herself, and she was fine with friends making comments on it. Or some guy who stuttered a lot, but was just a likable guy - if he'd be hung up stuttering on some syllable, a friend would say "Come on, spit it out!" and he'd just start laughing and say "shut up!" and go on with what he was trying to say. Oddly enough, parts of that job were fun.

I don't think you were being offensive or a jerk. I just think you were trying to be funny and failed miserably. File it under a bad joke that ruined any chances you thought you had with this girl.

stupid move, you don't know what or how self conscious people can get about certain things. Didn't you see Elf? When Will Ferrel asks that midget writer guy if he works in Santa's shop?
