Am I being throttled?

I have a galaxy s2 with att with a grandfathered unlimited data plan with a cycle that starts over on the 13th of the month. I use data, but not obscene amounts, usually around 1.5-2gb per month and I'm going some really slow speeds on my 4g network. There is no lte services where I live, but I'm getting 18 kbps dl on speed test. it takes around 2 mins to even find a server and the ping is around 630. the closest server is either San Jose, a little over an hour away. My current data usage is 400mb with 3 wks to go in my cycle. Can anything be done about this? I looked in my previous results in speed test and previously on the same network I was getting around 700 kbps dl.

My dad was using large amounts of data and they sent him a letter saying he was getting throttled. He called back, argued and threatened in sue since in his original contract said nothing of throttling and they stopped. YMMV

I was going to make a Sprint joke till I saw you were on AT&T. The speeds you mentioned were about all you could get at my office in downtown Chicago until very recently when they finally finished a 4G tower. Sadly that still doesn't compare to some 3G speeds I've seen on other providers.

I haven't rec'd any letters. I reran speed test and the speeds were a little better; 240 kbps dl, but loading pages still take forever. this has been going on for at least a month, with little to no improvement in speed after the new cycle.

Have you tried rebooting?

I usually reboot and it sometimes helps, but not for very long. good question about the 4g. I've always just assumed we had it. my phone says 4g but I've never seen it say 3g. some speed test results back in March were upwards of 3Mbps so I'm thinking we have 4g.

Can you check how good of a 4G signal you are getting? Just because you're in 4G range, doesn't mean you're getting the full amount of bars of 4G
