hi all im selling my ibook on craigslist , got a buyer he will paypal but wants it shipped to a cousin in new york, not his confirmed address, if i wai till the money is transfered to my bank account could i possibly be scammed. he seems like a real person, types using u instead of you stuff like that no caps in i. i dont want to get scammed but i really want to sell, any advice, his email is somthin like lovin lovin at gmail dont know if that matters, anyone been scammed by him, or like this before

thanks for the help in advance

Here's what could *potentially* happen:

1. Buyer pays you, and you ship to the "cousin" in NY.
2. Paypal money is transferred to your bank account.
3. Weeks pass without incident.
4. Out of the blue, Paypal contacts you saying the account that sent you the money was stolen at the time.
5. Paypal sees that you did not ship to the confirmed address, so you're not covered by any seller protection and they take the money back from your account and leave you out to dry.
6. You are out of an iBook and the money.

So yes, even if you wait for the money to be deposited, you could still get scammed.

Just note, paypal will debit your paypal account into a negative balance if you don't have funds to cover the chargeback. Deliquent negative account will result in your account being locked and your profile turned over to a collection agency -- kiss any good credit rating you have now goodbye for the next five years, all because of a scammer who will laugh their a** off at you.

Have him sent you a US postal money order.
Once the MO arrives, then take care of it at the PO and then ship to what ever addy he requested.

Because he will not have you send to a confirmed addy, you are now putting the payment restrictions.

By using the USPS, if fraud is involved, the full weight of Uncle is behind the transaction to handle the wrong doer.

Well if I was worried about getting scammed, the fact that the guy types like a 12 year old would certainly make me feel better. 😕

WTF really? If I saw someone typing like a retarded teenager, I'd tell them to piss off.

my general rule for selling on Craigslist: ALWAYS do a local pick-up and make them pay in cash. That way, you dont have to worry about the hassle of paypal, fake MO, shipping, scammers, etc.

Seriously. Someone who has the funds to buy an iBook should be able to use proper grammar, capitalization, and punctuation...

Anytime you're uncomfortable with a deal and feel there's a possibility you might be scammed, chances are, you ARE being scammed.

There's a reason it doesn't feel right.
