Am I being ripped off?

Bought an Antec power supply from a local computer shop last Saturday (January 7th). Went there today to get a refund (sealed, unopen box), and they said that i'm past their 7 day refund policy. I argued that today is 7 days from the date of purchase, but she refuted.

Am I wrong? Isn't 7 days from January 7th today, the 14th?

Wow, that really is a crappy return policy. Not to mention the item is still sealed. Ask for the manager/owner and explain that today is the 7th day, and yesterday was the 6th day. If they still refuse to give a refund be sure to ask if they are a member of the BBB, and if they really want to lose a customer over this issue.

I would say yes you are being ripped but why would you do that anyway?

why would i return the power supply? because I mis-diagnosed my pc problems. it turned out to be a bad motherboard, so i have no need for a new power supply. i would rather have my $100 back, instead of keeping something i won't user.

the lady stated that they counted from the day of the purchase, so the 13th would be the last day to return the item. i think that is bullshit. it is not written on the invoice that they start from the same day.

she wanted to give me store credit, but after the way they acted, I would never buy anything from them again, and then they would have my $100 and a $100 power supply to sell.

True. However if the store closes at 6PM and I make the purchase at 5:59PM......you get the picture. Having a poor return policy is one way to lose a lot of business.

If she's not senior management, or the owner, then work your way up the ladder.

He could argue the time of the transaction as well.

the invoice states 01/07/06 at 18:06:15

Argue with them that you attempted to return the item before the end of the 168th hour (7x24=168). If they still refuse, make sure you argue loud enough for other patrons to hear. Best if you can argue and keep them occupied so they can't wait on another customer. (Don't let it get out of hand, though. Going to jail over this would suck.)

Simple:
Suggest you'll take it to small claims court...

Then, tell them that you believe you have a strong case.
Ask them, "what would any reasonable person believe if there was a 1 day return policy?"
Answer for them: Any reasonable person would believe that that means if you bought it on Mon, you could return it on Tuesday.
Extend that to the 7 day return policy.
Suggest that most judges are reasonable people and will agree with you.

Then, suggest: you can take the return now, or you can waste your time in court and return my money then.

i am going down there right now, and i am not coming back without my money.

I wouldn't buy from a computer store that can't count. I hope that not taking back a sealed product is worth your future business or the bad word of mouth that you're going to give this business.
