That was my idea. I don't really think you're being a jerk but I would consider creating a limited access account for him. On top of that, just allow him to use it when you're around. You might try explaining your situation to him, even though it might go in one ear and come out the other.

agreed. How does he "break" computers? Does he hit them or something?

Tell him that you have classified information stored on the computer and have been authorized to kill anyone else who uses the computer.

While you are at it, cut of his nose, tongue, and any other party of the body that is pointy enough to type and click.

I am in a similar situation... Two roommates, neither of whom have their own computers. I told them they're free to use mine as long as they don't download porn or get any viruses (since I have work stuff on there, viruses = bad). One day I walked into my room and one of them was watching porn. His account was password-protected later that day and that was the end of it. If you're giving someone your equipment to use for free and they still can't respect it, then shame on them.

This is why God made Ghost software.
Do a fresh install, updateit and make a ghost copy.
Then, reformats are 20 minutes away.

And get a password on it.

Had the same problem back in college. I had a Power Mac system that everyone wanted to constantly use instead of their high end Windoze PeeCees. Pissed me off to no end although it never got messed up, I had alot of things to do on it.

Too much trouble. Just gouge his eyes out with a blunt object. If he can't see, then he won't go on the internet.

If you REALLY want him to stop using your computer, threaten to give him more cancer somehow.

"If I catch you on my computer again, I'm going to get some cancer cells and inject your pee-pee with them!"

Personally, I think that letting people google on your computer is almost a point of etiquette. Not doing so is like having a phone and not letting people make quick calls on it.

Downloading anything onto someone else's computer is a serious no-no, though. It's like making 3 hour calls to Sri Lanka.

Your user account idea is probably the best way to go; unlock the door, he will likely not be able to hurt anything now.

You let your friends use your cell phone to call their friends... in Pakistan?

Yes. Do that and also create for him a limited guest account where he can't install any software or do anything stupid to your Windows install.

unless he run a crack exe to make a game run without a cd, and it loads spyware and viruses instead (done that one before but i turned out ok:p). i don't mind my roommates using my computer at all - they're free to do so - but they can't be loading $hit on there w/o my permission. so OP, you're fine in my book

The biggest issue I have with him using it....using passwords aside, is the fact that he downloads music, movies, etc from bittorrent or whatever filesharing software he can find which has lead to spyware and such being loaded onto my computer and considering that he's torched 3 laptops in the last 12 months all of them from massive gobs of spyware and viruses you can see my concern

i havent got one spyware/virus in years doing that stuff =P
just gota be smart, use all of the nessecsary (sp) programs to block the stuff.
