Will I be better off just using my TP-Link WDR4300 as an AP and leave my Asus RT-N16 in place as my primary router?
Router Models : TL-WDR4300 (V1), Asus RT-N16
Operating Systems of devices on the network: Win XP and W7 and Android
I bought the WDR4300 to replace my Asus RT-N16 as I need more range and seemed to remember reading somewhere that the WDR4300 2.4Gz band would be better than the Asus 2.4Ghz band (although I may have just dreamed of reading that as I cannot find my source at this point). I do not have any scientific measuring equipment, but I am not noticing an appreciable difference. Neither router can get from the NE corner of my basement to the SW corner of my second floor.
So, now I am wondering if I should install the WDR4300 as an AP on the first floor in the middle of the house (since it has 5Gz band which I think would be useful for my daughter's laptop and TV upstairs) and leave the Asus next to the modem as my primary router? If I do a comparison of features, it looks like I may give up a few things by using the WDR4300 as the AP rather than the primary router (i.e. Guest network, etc.), but it also seems like there should be an advantage to having the machine with the better radios as the AP?
What are the advantages and disadvantages?
