Am I arrogant?

So today I am talkin to this girl in one of my engineering classes and we were discussing reading and I said that i thought engineering majors should have to take more literature classes. It came up cuz I mentioned Oscar Wilde and Richard Wright and she knew neither. She then said I was arrogant cuz I think people should be well rounded...so am I?

On the contrary it sounds to me like you understand what the true purpose of a University is. They were never meant to be glorified trade schools.

It's pretty silly to put yourself on a pedestal for knowing who Oscar Wilde or Richard Wright are. Just because somebody doesn't know about authors s/he would've read in a class s/he is not required to take does not make you a better person.

I think she probably said you were arrogant because you were making fun of her. I am confident that she did not say "You are arrogant because you think people should be well rounded."

sounds arrogant to me. but id really have to be there.

as for schools forcing students to take non-major courses... i think its bs. just forcing kids into non-major classes isnt going to round them. unless they want to learn it, its just a waste of time and energy.

edit:
On the other hand, I do agree that most engineering program requirements don't do enough for the general education of people...

actually, i said "engineers should have to take more classes out of our major because being well rounded is important" and then she said "that seems like a very arrogant opinion for you to have"

Most engineering majors already spend 5+ years in school fulfilling the requirements they already have... forcing them to take more non-major classes is a waste of their time and money.

you are not arrogant. however, you are kind of pathetic for bragging on an internet forum about your most intimate encounter with a female this year, then trying to disguise it as a question/poll (i see a lot of that here, actually)

=]

Well..thats just how it is at most colleges/universities. Literature/English courses are usually not required outside of basic English Composition courses (unless you are an English/Literature major or something similar to those).

I know that getting it done in 4 years is hard. I have had to take summer classes every summer, but I will be out in 4.

Also, gUEv. Sorry if this is your definition of an inimate encounter; that sux dude.

As a side note to you...i got laid last night 🙂

I personally don't give a sh!t if the engineers that built the bridge I cross, the planes I ride in, or the car I drive knows who Oscar Wilde is.

LMFAO at the "well rounded" aspect of the university experience.

The fact of you needing to be well rounded is to make you pay for more classes since college is among the worst for ripping people off. It's a business.

yeah CPA, i said good bye this morning when i woke up and went to class this morning and left her sleeping in my bed. seems like people on this forum and convinced that they are the only person getting some.

I don't think that's arrogant at all, but I have been told my expectations of people is a little high. Just last night I was talking with a new lady friend of mine, and when she asked me to play the piano I said, "How about some Beethoven?" to which she responded, "Like the dog?" She wasn't kidding.
