Am I an ass, or is he an ass?

Apparently I offended Michael

FS-GS.com is the site in question... they claim to be able to get high end performance from mid-range hardware without compromising image quality. Michael claims his customers fly "full slider" in FS2004 who never would have dreamed of doing so before he performed his "System Unification" on their PC.

Can't really say. However, I am dubious that FS-GS is anything more than a simple reformat + a proper installation.

You insulted the other person, he come out defending himself and insult you back. Simple as that.

Well I agree that he shouldn't be so unprofessional on the forum because he's representing his company. THere's a polite way for him to address things. You would need to find someone that's used their services to see if it works well or not.

Agreed.

My favorite, though, is the guy spouting off how "people in the know" know full well that FPS is trash and isn't a measure of how smooth your game is playing. Errr...please run that by me again in a way that makes some sort of sense, thanks. Like the OP said, frames per second is frames per second, and is going to tell you how smoothly the game is running.

As far as who's an ass, I'd say that this Mike guy comes off as the larger rear-end.

Taken from www.fs-gs.com :

I researched every available website and forum until I had learned to understand the operating principals of the simulator and how it interacts with all of the available motherboards, processors, operating systems, video cards, video card drivers, sound cards and sound card drivers.

I built system after system seeking to come up with real world answers to making the simulator function at its max even on what many would consider systems incapable of doing so. I have researched and sought out answers from the best manufacturers and designers and I have learned from the users what they need and want from their machines and simulators.

The results to date have been scores of satisfied customers many of whom had given up on their machines believing them to be incapable of ever achieving satisfactory performance.

Users of all skill levels who had previously thought their systems obsolete and could not even consider expensive upgrades have found that ?system unification? has given them the ability to enjoy their gaming experience on a par with users with ?high end? systems. High end users benefit from the increased stability and functionality of their systems.

The answers that you will find here are not based on ?unrealistic bench marks or test scores? but on real life experience and real time testing of this unique and ?special? game.

I am not a hardware professional (whatever that may mean) but his miracle solution sounds like bullshit to me ...

The argument that "FPS means nothing" is crap. Let's use cars as an example:

40mph is 40mph.

In a 1984 VW Rabbit, that 40mph may FEEL faster than it does in a Caddie, but it's still a hard number that can be worked with.

If you call your mechanic and say "My Rabbit won't go over 40mph" and he asks "but how does it FEEL?" I'd be looking for another mechanic.

I call BS on him and his whole "system unification" speal. While he is obviously aiming at the non computer savy niche of computing (have anti virus running, lots of programs running at startup) the way he's deliverying it is as slimy as the Televangelist on late night Sunday TV.

I just find it interesting how defensive he got. There would have been no need for that discussion on that board if his website wasn't so extremely vague about what they actually do.

It most likely has to be vague...seeing as how it's probably just a checklist of procedures that anyone could do if somewhat walked through it.
