I know it's legal to download some games as long as you own the original copy. Is this the case with movies, or tv shows in this case? Thanks.

Technically illegal, but who cares? Morally you're doing nothing wrong.

Who cares...as long as you don't upload it to anyone else, you're pretty much untouchable.

You're not entitled to the rights of that disc, you're just allowed to own it. You paid for that copy, and can only have that copy (unless you backup, which, IIRC, you're allowed to do). But who really cares?

Go for it.

Backups are illegal if the disc is encrypted. Thank you DMCA. Technically you don't even own the disc, you own a license to watch the content on the disc. So, downloading a copy of the disc is illegal. Downloading the show as it was broadcast is a little grey. Fair use has stated that you are allowed to record a copy for personal use provided you don't distribute it. However, I doubt a HDTV cap with the commercials removed you get from newsgroups is legal. It's definitely illegal if you get it from BT because you're also distributing that content to others.

With that said, fvck it download it anyway. Those laws do jack sh!t to stop the real pirates.

Sometimes you can get them to replace the damaged disc if you send it to them.

I know someone who did that with bf2, maybe it's worth a try.

How is it legal to download some media if you own the original? Downloading is still downloading.
