Are you Jewish or not? If you are, then you are quite out of line with that as the title because that has no relevance to you.

Anyway, I think President Bush is a massive hypocrite. We can go in and bust up Afghanistan in search of terrorists, but if Israel tries to defend herself by going after terrorists, then it's wrong because some civilians can be killed. Well, hate to break it to Bush (maybe he wasn't briefed...), but we killed a lot of Afghan civilians who we were supposed to be protecting. Now, I don't have a problem with the "War on Terrorism" and that civilians died in our pursuit of terrorists, it's a terrible shame, but, unfortunately, it happens, I do have a problem with his hypocrisy though.

You can't figure that out from my posts in this thread?

Vespasian,
I am Jewish and do not believe that you are self-hating in relation to the criteria you presented. That seems to be more of a political arguement then a religious one. Some jews agree with Sharon, some don't. This is how it has always been with the prime ministers and presidents of Israel. So, I don't think you are being a self-hating jew by any stretch of the imagination when you disagree with gov't policy. I somewhat agree that Israel needs to at least soften the image of what it is doing, but I really do believe that behind the scenes, GWB is telling Sharon to do what he needs to and to not worry about public opinion. GWB just gives a different public statement to save himself the world criticism. Some may like this, some may not, but it is politics and what needs to be done.

An opinion in which you disagree with Sharon's policy does not mean you are a self hating jew. However, as a Jew, I feel the need to point out that something about your logic behind disagreeing with Sharon rubs me the wrong way. You state that:

It is probably very naive of me to say this, but I want to give the world as many reasons as possible not to hate the Jewish people.
I want my people to be liked, not universally hated.

in other words, and correct me if I'm wrong, you seem to be saying that you have changed your viewpoint somewhat simply because you are concerned that, if you stand by your original viewpoint, others will hate jews more than they already might...thats the part that doesnt make sense to me.

stand up for what you believe in, and, if you're going to change your opinion (which you obviously have the right to do without feeling guilty or anything of the sorts), do so because of facts or actions that occur there, not do to a concern over what others may think of your opinion. and, needless to say (so I'll say it anyways :)), I dont think anyone should change their opinion over concerns of what others may think of them for having it-though it can be difficult, it's rewarding to stand by what you believe in.
