am I a nerd for staying up to edit a research paper on nanoparticles?

I work in a research lab that is currently doing extensive studies on nanotubes and really enjoy the work. So I got this email from my boss asking me to edit a article and for some reason, I find the stuff eerily cool. I should be asleep or studying for genetics but this stuff is too interesting...I'm thinking that I'm straddling the line of super nerd and nerd.

sorry shimsham, I'm not able to post it. It's really cool stuff though. I feel like I'm on the "cutting edge" and will feel really accomplished if any of the things we're studying come to fruition (meaning available to the general public). When I get the green light, I will try to remember and post a link to the article.

Sounds very interesting.

Are you working on the self assembly sort of nanoparticles? Or is it more nanomechanics kind of stuff?

currently, all I can say is that we make custom nanoparticles from templates.

Yes you are a geek/nerd...welcome to the club.

My Ph.D. research is in the area of nanoscale/nano-patterned surface physics. I don't have any published papers yet but I'm working on it...hopefully I'll get my first one submitted by the end of the year and maybe 2-3 more by the time I'm done if I'm fortunate and all my equipment behaves (i.e. doesn't break).

Awesome man, good luck with that. Surface physics on a nanoscale sounds like a BITCH!

Also, I am very proud of the research that I do, because I really think it will make a difference in all of our lives.

I hope you can turn your passion into bank.
