because I carry a pocketknife

Here is the story...

Used to work in a warehouse so I was in the habit of carrying a pocketknife all the time because I used it daily. I kept in the habit of carrying a pocketknife with me even after I left the job and moved into an office.

I leave work early to go to the homecoming game for my 10 year high school reunion and forget I have it with me. Lo and behold they have metal detectors now, so I hand it over to the security guard. He says that I can pick it up after the game...No biggie, right? The person I was with kept bringing it up....I can't believe you brought a knife to the game...I tell them to leave it alone, I just forgot I had it on my person.

A couple of days later that same person calls me a criminal for carrying a pocketknife. So has the infringement on my constitutional rights spread from firearms to pocketknives now? What's next? Blunt protractors?

Tell the person that was with you that he/she is a moron and you're not going to associate with him/her any longer, as you're afraid of having your inteligence drained by the nearby mental black hole.

LOL, right you are.

When I went to pick up my knife from the security guard that took it. He had a couple of others as well. I like it, about a 3" blade handmade job with a horn casing on it. It's not like it was a switchblade or anything.

What a fvcktard. I would not associate myself with that person.

Totally unrelated.........One of my good friends has a concealed weapons permit. He carries 99% of the time unless we are going to a bar and then he just leaves his gun in the car. Well I can't believe all the stores in this area that won't allow concealed weapons. Most people that have permits are very responsible people. My friend doesn't even let his friends to know he carries because he would never draw unless his life or a friend's life was in danger.

What I don't understand is the fact that when a store posts a sign that say "No Concealed Weapons" , they are basically tell you that you can rob the store and not have to worry about someone having a gun.

As for a football game I totally understand why they don't want knives at the game. While in high school I remember about 2-3 fights that took place at games. Of course they didn't check for knives or guns when I was in HS.

Your "friend" needs to get a life.

There are certain blades that are illegal, yes. However, what most people refer to as a "pocket knife" is not illegal.

You need a new friend. I normally carry a Spyderco Endura in my back pocket and a Leatherman Micra in my front. I have forgotten to take my knife out once when going to the courthouse. I was very embarassed. I picked it up on the way out.

Lol, I remeber when I was in Middle School... I had a steak knife in my "Trapper Keeper". There was no reason for me to carry one. And I don't know why I did it. My mom freaked out when she found it.

You're not a criminal. Those guys are dumbasses.... :)

I carry a mini mag light belt holder with a leatherman tool/knife/needlenose. All my key chains have little knives and led lights and crap I can't remember. When I went to jury duty it took nearly a 1/2 hour to get past the metal detector and the shake down guards. They kept all my mini knives but let me thru with the leatherman/maglight holder on my belt with the leatherman in there. I was amazed..all they cared about were the little key chain knives. Made a big friggin deal about putting them in a sealed yellow envlope and making me sign for the things. The whole while I sat in court with a leatherman on my belt....:Q

Nowadays you would have been expelled from school, have to take a psychiatric evaluation and then be shipped off to boarding school where you room with a hairy sweaty girl named Sue...

Have I ever mentioned how I hate the society that we are becoming?

I don't think we could ever hang out. I'm just fine with the stick up my ass. I don't want to chance having a stick and a knife in there! ;)

This was actually before she worked at either. She just left the courthouse to work at the jail. I think at the time she was doing 911 dispatch or working in the evidence room.

I used to have a 357 magnum bullet keychain, it was a dead round with the primer hole enlarged so a small chain could stick in it. Never thought twice about having it either.

About two years ago I was flying out of detroit metro. I had driven up there, so I had my keys (normally don't take them when I'm flying and didn't drive). Before I go through the metal detector, I hand my keys over and walk through without setting it off. On the other side, the security guard was holding the bullet and asking "what is THIS?". I explained it was a dummy round and there was no way it could be made to fire again (unless I happened to pack a reloading bench into my carryon luggage, which they could see I had not), but she didn't like that answer. So I packed it into my carryon and checked it. It was all my luggage actually, so had it gotten lost, I'd have been without my clothes AND my car keys.

A year later, that same stunt would have landed me a full body cavity search I imagine. It's a non-issue now anyway, because the chain broke and I lost the bullet part of it somewhere.
