Last night 2 of my friends asked me to go drinking of all places Bourbon Street. Yeah you heard right, it was going to be a French Quarter night. New Orleans is just getting somewhat back on its feet and has a 2am curfew. Taking that in mind, I decided not to go.

Awakened at 2:30am,I received a phone call from one of them asking if I could come pick them up. I asked them how tore up they were and was it because they were too impaired to drive. He said that they werent allowed to drive. At thie moment I was a bit confused and still half asleep. They told me that I can either pick them up or they were going to jail. A state trooper had pulled them over after curfew had expired and they were drunk off their asses. I was hesitant to respond on if I was gonna go, because I didnt have a clue where they were at that point and I would be driving after curfew. Curfew alone was enough bait for them to put me in jail if I was caught wondering around the city looking for them. I said that I couldnt do it and they were going to give someone else a try to see if they could come. After I hung up, I felt really bad that I let them down. So I called them right back and to my surprise they told me that the state trooper had let them go. They needed to sleep it off in the car until they were able to drive. I was very relieved but still felt bad that I let them down.

EDIT: These 2 friends are coworkers that I occasionally hang out with.

Under the same circumstances, what would you have done?

Damn, that was a nice state trooper.

::puts on flame suit and waits for response that your friends should be shot in the head for their actions::

Going to get them would be going beyond the call of duty as a friend IMHO. Were these just good friends or were these your dogs? I might or might not consider it for friends but would seriously consider it for my boys, then again, if my boys went out drinking I'd be with them, curfew or not.

I hope you misunderstood that part and/or are lying.

just play it by the old quote...
a friend is someone who will bail you out of jail... but your best friend is the one sitting next to you saying: "that was f*cking awesome!"

You showed them Hank Hill that you told them that they were going to get into trouble and they did! Serves them right. They were probably so drunk they don't even remember you calling them, and besides what would happen if they drove home a bit intoxicated since there's no one on the street.

Too bad that they didn't call a taxi or you guys have public transportation to bring your drunken buddies home.

No, I'm refering to my sons, aged 8 and 10. :D

Some cops are pretty cool. I once went to some college party, and was drunk off my @ss.(this was when I was 18/19, I know underaged drinking...blah blah blah). I had my cousin with me, and he was 16. He didn't drink, but had no license or permit to drive. However, he knew how to drive. I was too drunk to drive home, so I had him drive. He forgets to turn on the head lights and we get pulled over on the way home. I explained the situation as best as I possibly can to the cop, he understood, and let us go with a warning. Boy was I relieved.

However, some cops can be jack@sses. I remember getting arrested when I was 16, for playing basketball after the curfew time at a basketball court that was right across the street from my house.(The new mayor at Buffalo decided to implement some curfew laws to reduce crime or something, I don't think they this law is still enforced or exist in Buffalo today). It wasn't a big deal. They took me to the holding center, and made me call and wake up my dad to pick me up. The problem I had was that, I lived across the street. The could've just said, go home or something. Instead, they wasted thier time, and mines by going through the hassle of putting me in the cop car, etc. etc.
