Am Having Problems With Nvidia's Latest Driver.

I have just installed Nvidia's latest graphic driver: 185.85 with no success. I have no nvidia control panel or anyway to make adjustments. I have reinstalled it twice. It shows it installed ok in device manager and on Nvidia's automatic search for the latest driver. Physx seems ok also except when I try to uninstall it, it shows it is not there. Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: All right. Here is the latest. Nvidia Control Panel in 185.85 is in Vista's Control Panel. When I open the Nvidia Control Panel icon I get this message twice:

THE NVIDIA DISPLAY PANEL EXTENSION CANNOT BE CREATED.
POSSIBLE REASONS INCUDE: VERSION MISMATCH. REINSTALLING DISPLAY DRIVER MAY SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

After clicking OK twice the panel opens with no info at all. Under components some of the stuff looks like from my old driver. I cannot make any adjustments at all including changing the resolution.
I have tried several things like driver cleaners in safe mode, uninstalling like Nvdia recommends, reinstalling, to no avail. This new driver, 185.85, will not install right on my machine! Anybody else have this problem? Any resolution? No pun intended.

This may sound simplistic but did you download the proper driver for Vista?🙂

Oh yes, indeed. I believe I might have found the problem. Apparently the driver does not install Nvidia Control Panel for Vista 64 Ultimate. Another problem is after I uninstalled the old driver, Vista reinstalled portions of it after I rebooted. Then when I installed the new driver, I got a message saying ?mismatched versions". I deleted the Nvidia folder in my C drive, uninstalled the driver with a program called Driver Sweeper, and then installed the new driver with success. It is supposed to give a 45 percent improvement in Mirrors Edge, we will see.
I have to make any video adjustments in Vista Control Panel, I can?t even right click in a blank space on my desk top to see properties. Anybody know of a work around to get Nvidia Control Panel in Vista 64 Ultimate?
By the way, please feel free to disagree to what I have written, all of what I have said about Nvidia Control panel is heresay. Thanks.

Not that you should have to do this, but http://www.nhancer.com/ is a nice replacement for the stock NV control panel.

I just tried updating to 185.85 myself the other day. (For my GTX 280)

It was completely broken for me :frown:

It insisted on thinking the secondary DVI was primary, & consequently set my primary display as #2.
I then forced them to be correct primary/secondary, but then games were broken; couldn't get a single game to launch.

I removed them (normal uninstall + Driver Sweeper) & reinstalled with just primary monitor attached, but they were still fucked.

So getting more than a little annoyed, i grabbed the 186.08s from Guru3D, which installed perfectly & normally as usual.

Ridiculous, & not the same issue you are having, but all i know is that the 185.85s were horribly broken for me.

I just checked nvidia forums and there are a lot of complaints about this driver. I'm surprised, I have been using Nvidia cards for several years and this is the first time I had a problem with a driver.

I have issues with pretty much every nV driver...usually something new broken in old games everytime.

The nightmare never ends :\

i am running a GPU shootout right now and 185.85 works great so far in 15 games for:

1) GTX280
2) 9800GT
3) 8200 M [my notebook; not in the review 😛]

i will also be testing this driver with 8800GTX, GTS 250 and GTX 275 .. so i'll let you know if i run into any issues with it later on this week

great work, I'll give it a try tonight. I just installed my GTX 275 SC and 8800 GT (dedicated PHYSX card) and everything is running nicely with 182.50 but it doesn't offer the memory optimizations for the GTX 275 SC.
