AM / FM Tuner for PCs?

Now that I think about it, I've never seen one with AM. Actually I found one that was ISA, but no PCI ones or ones integrated with WinTV tuners. Has any1 ever seen this?

For a hundred dollars I would rather get something like this , actually I did get that, for $96.00 shipped 😀

Also, the NewQ Platinum doesnt have AM band, does anyone listen to AM anymore?

I doubt you'd want an AM tuner on a card mounted inside a PC. The interference would be horrible, and receiption would be very very poor. Best bet would be an external tuner connected to the line-in of your soundcard. And even then, it'll be hard to find a decent new AM tuner of any sort nowadays. An old 60s-era portable would probably work best.

Lemme tell you what my friend is trying to do. There's some show on a station on AM that he wants to record daily on his PC. He said he found one card that had it, but it was an ISA card, and his computer doesn't have an ISA slot. That's why he's trying to see if any new stuff comes with it. He's even considering getting a PCI->ISA adapter!!! (It ain't that serious in my opinion.) And they do make those adapters...i think they're kinda expensive though.

I know you may not like this idea, but if it is only one station he is trying to record the best thing to probably do is just plug the radio in to the line-in of your sound card. I've been doing the same thing for a couple of years and it works great. When I first started I figiured I needed something like a card or streaming it from the Internet; but sometimes the low tech simple solutions are the best.

The two best softwares I've found are AudioGrabber and AudioTools (unrelatedinventions.com). I used to use audiograbber, but have recently switched do to the superior scheduling capability of AudioTools.

As another note, if it is talk radio you can get by with pretty low bitrates. I've settled on 32 kb/s, 22050 hz and it works surprisingly well.

Edit: I should mention that 32 kb/s, 22050 hz would be MONO. Also, a good radio if you have a little trouble getting a clear signal (especially AM) is the GE SuperRadio. Amazon used to sell them.
