Always opt for insurance?

I just won an auction for a pair of Oakleys on ebay. Glasses itself are only $85, shipping & handling is $15, insurance is optional at $7. This is my first time buying something on ebay, so was wondering if the extra $7 was worth it or if ebay's buyer protection thing (up to $200, $25 deductable) was sufficient.

It's like a dollar for $100 insurance (if that) via the shipping companies. Inflated shipping charges, ok, but, what kind of insurance quote is that?!!

/edit: I'd skip it and leave a negative if there was a problem.

Yeah... Way too expensive. I usually charge $15 for shipping/handing/insurance, and even then I feel guilty because i know it doesn't always cost that much. I say don't pay for the insurance.

Wow, el rippo, extortion type of shipping prices. But how is their feedback, if it looks like all the items are making it to the buyers you are probably OK leaving off insurance.

feedback is 98% positive, only negative ever was a seller that said he never paid. Has a 84 feedback rating.

The glasses cost $155 retail, and even with my friend discount at his work he could only get them for around $115 + tax, so if I don't pay for insurance I'd still be saving over $20.
