Always nice to get a raise before you even start working

I was hired solely for the Christmas season at my local grocery store (Loeb for those of you in Ontario), as I used to work night crew and grocery there for 2 years. Well I'm going to be working in the front end pushing carts and bagging, not the best job in the world but whatever, better than no job. Anyway, the manager who hired me back really likes me <sidenote>really nice guy, very angry inside though</sidenote> and both he and the store director went to the loeb management committee and they up'd my salary by 1$ an hour more! It adds up, believe me. So the glorious pay check will be at 8.59 an hour now, Christmas presents for all!

Edit - Oh yeah I don't start until the end of next week

hehe, congrats...I also am quite excited about a job, as I was able to land myself a sales position at one of the nicest hi-fi A/V stores around here, Gramophone on Woodward (of the Woodward Dream Cruise, yes)

is that $8.59 candian?

The cost of life in Canada is WAY lower than it is in the US :) Besides, that's only about $1 above minumum wage

Minimum wage is actually $6.85.

Congrats man. At least you have a job. Just curious, how do you manage to live day by day having to stock shelves and push carts? You're probably young though so that is not a major problem. I'm a little heavy so I guess that's why it took its toll.

I've worked at a grocery store for five years (started in high school). I went from bagger --> cashier --> stocker. Once I finish with my degree I might see what they have to offer in my degree field.
