Always Black Pixel

My last monitor had a pixel 1/3 the way down the screen and center from left to right. This pixel is always black and has always been black as far as I can remember.

I just got a new monitor (Cornerstone p1460) and I noticed a pixel in the same area that is also ALWAYS black.

Is this graphics card related or have my last two monitors been defective with these always black pixels in the same area on the screen.

It would be a real pain to have to return my new monitor. Thanks..

"Pixel Criteria for LCD Monitors

The LCD monitor that you receive may have a small number of irregular pixels. This does not necessarily mean that your monitor is defective. If the manufacturer's quality control only accepted perfect monitors, the cost to produce each monitor would be significantly increased. Therefore, the quality control department of each manufacturer will allow each monitor to have up to a certain number of irregular pixels.

If you believe that your monitor has an excessively high number of irregular pixels, you may contact the manufacturer's technical support for an evaluation. Please keep in mind that your monitor will not be replaced if it only has a few irregular pixels.

If the manufacturer does qualify your monitor as truly defective, then the manufacturer will generally replace the monitor for you directly. If the manufacturer instructs you to return the monitor to Pc Nation, you will need to obtain a case ID number. Pc Nation will need this case ID number before issuing an RMA number."

I guess I should just deal with it... man 2/2 my monitors have had these irregular pixels. I wish manufacturers could test for this type of stuff I pay good money for.

That is a load of crap. If you're paying for an LCD, you should be getting all your pixels. It's kinda funny how you can see that one pixel that's dead, though. I can't even tell unless I look at it really closely. But you should return it and get a new one. Looks like that company turned off that pixel or something. Go for another monitor that gives you all your pixels. Hope this helps.

First of all, is this an LCD you're using? I thought the Cornerstone p1460 was a CRT. If it/they are CRT's, then it's likely your graphics card. Test it out on another pc if you can to verify the monitor works.

If you just got the monitor then return/exchange it if you can, but most crt monitor companies wont fix/replace your monitor for one bad pixel under warranty. Heck you could have several bad pixels & scattered over you monitor & they probably wont lift a finger-you need a "cluster" of bad pixels in one area generally for thenm to do anything.

If the pixel is in the same place on different monitors it is likely to be a bad memory cell on your video card.

CRT monitor are susceptible to dead spots, there are no ?pixels? on a CRT monitor.

On shadow mask monitors there are phosphor dots one red, green and blue that make up what is called a triad. In AG monitors there are stripes of phosphor. If one of these dots is missing or damaged or a small section from an AG stripe is missing, a small dark spot can be seen. CRT?s can have dead phosphor spots, however they are not as common as dead spots on LCD monitors.

hope thats not too OT...but since i can assume you know something about monitors...

assuming i am on a budget, say max. $300/320 for a 19".... would you recommend the viewsonic/optiquest q95 as a good monitor ?
(i would go with a samsung 950p, but they're discontinued :( )

(I have the q95 here at work...but since i dont have a way to compare it i dont know if there are better budget monitors (kds, ctx ?) around maybe :)

thanks
