A friend and I are working on a Mercury 2 clyinder 40hp boat motor. We had to take the carburetor apart to clean and fix some things. When we did, the float cover (aluminum part) broke at on of the screw holes.

JB weld doesn't work for shit.

We can't find this part to save our life.

Someone I work with suggested an epoxy he once used that made the aluminum as hard as steel (probably not at tough, but close) and he fixed many broken aluminum parts with it. The thing is...he can't remember what it was.

Do you guys recommend anything to be used?

If you go to this link -
http://www.usboatsupply.com/Me...p?mc=01&ms=3260&si=673 and select "Carburetor Assembly", the part is part #9. You can see on the left side where the screw goes through it. This is the part that broke off...but we still have the small broken piece and just need something that will hold it back together.

Help is appreciated!

I've used this stuff to 'weld' aluminum before and it's pretty tough ( tougher than the aluminum )

I think it goes by the name 'durafix' - you need a propane torch to melt it and a stainless steel brush to clean the surfaces.

Here's a youtube video of some guy using it to fix a hole in a pepsi can. I believe you can tap it if necessary.

It can be pretty difficult to use if you don't clean the surfaces properly so practice.

Which screw hole is messed up - the one for screw #12 or #13?
