alum. foil RAM heat spreaders...

i made some memory heat spreaders with alum foil. just cut strips of foil (1 strip for each 4 chips) and dabbed a bit of non conductive thermal paste
on each chip. form fitted the foil on the chips, which stayed in place with the paste.

don't know if it makes any difference, but it was fun!

give us some pictures. 🙂

Sounds ok, did you leave a lot of excess foil hanging over the chips to increase surface area.

I don't have a camera, but they look better than I was expecting. I was worried that the foil would
contact some of the wires, so I minimized the amount of foil. my next incarnation may be more bold.
I understand that the outer film of foil is aluminum oxide which is a super insulator, so I might not need to worry about
shorting the memory out. cant do this with copper!

Stoned! unfortunately (fortunately?!) I wasn't, just bored.

my ram is only at 2.56 volts, and was never warm to the touch, even though c/c to 406MHz.
