Alternatives to reimaging computers

At my work our current procedure when deploying a system that has had a previous user is to reimage the machine. I was wondering if anyone knew of a program that can compare the current state of the computer (installed programs, user files, etc) to the standard image and remove the files and programs so as to return the current install to the standard.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Reimage it, best way to ensure no root kits or other items. Besides, a file by file compare will be just as slow as dropping the image anyway.

I second Bill's suggestion. Does reimaging take that long? Do you have a shelf you can reimage 5-10 PCs at a time so they're all done?

I reimaged tons of computers, it wasn't that bad. What is your procedure? Where I was a temp at, we use Systems Management Server through PXE.
