Alternatives to Partial Replication in MS Access

I am currently in the process of designing/developing an application that uses access/vb to develop an application that will be used by multiple users from different locations.
Is there anyway other than replication to centrally synchronize data from all the users while still being able to provide a decent level of security (visibility of data and such).
