i'm tired of itunes. i'm tired of the overpriced songs at the itunes store, i don't use an iphone or ipod or ipad, i use an HTC desire S.

my macbook is old and i will be getting a new one later this summer, but, itunes is dreadfully slow to start up and i anyways cannot use it with my phone.

Are there any good alternatives to itunes. i have been using doubletwist, but that also seems slow. of course, maybe my computer has just had it and cannot cope anymore with such things.

I'm just wondering if anyone has come across a music player for Mac that works well and isn't itunes?

Use Amazon Mp3 (obviously).

Use any program that syncs with your HTC Desire.

plus i want something that works well, doubletwist is nice because it imports all your playlists and syncs with any device, but it is slow, i want something better and I'm starting to think there isn't anything.

i live in the uk and we cannot use the amazon player over here, its stupid.

This isn't about the Player, can you buy MP3s from Amazon?

An alternative player is Songbird, but I haven't used it much.

yes i already buy amazon mp3's, my question was never about where to buy music from, my question is about a music player that works well on a Mac but isn't itunes.

i will look at songbird, thanks.

I suggest an iPhone then. Buying music (or any media) on iTunes is hilariously uninitiated.

Well you were talking about the overpriced songs, so I (at least, I can't speak for Zen0) wanted to make sure you knew about the alternatives. You listed it as one of your reasons for dropping iTunes, and it really shouldn't be, as you already have your alternative in Amazon. Contrary to a lot of PR, iTunes/iPods actually can playback something other than iTMS files.

uninitiated?

Maybe he likes Android, or doesn't want to pay what the iPhone costs. Besides that won't fix the slowness issue, and in fact may exacerbate it.

hmm, again, this has nothing to do with buying music, i'm sorry i mentioned it. it only came up as a part of itunes that i don't like.

sync capabilities is the topic of discussion, i'm gonna try songbird.

exactly, i like android and i don't want to pay what the iphone costs.

i have tried songbird, its brilliant, much faster startup and it syncs a hell of a lot faster than my ipod with itunes. and much much faster syncing than doubletwist with my phone.

i'm gonna have to recommend songbird to anyone who is interested. plus i'm liking all the customisable options and add ons.

time will tell ultimately, but so far, much better.

just an update, songbird, not as good as it first seemed. it crashes a lot and struggles to add new media, you have to manually add it. when it is working it seems great, also, it can make a mash up of tunes you load onto your phone/mp3 player.

its really unfortunate, it works brilliantly, and then everything all of sudden gets messed up, and then it starts working again.

for clarity's sake, it seem to work about 80% of the time really well, but that 20% is too much. i'm hoping for another update soon to sort out some of the bugs because i really like the look and customisation of it.

If you come here with the presumption that iTunes is overpriced then you have an alternative in mind already and this is a troll thread.

I think it's funnier that he thinks itunes is overpriced, yet still has an Apple computer.

I've tried several alternatives (SongBird as well), but always seem to come back to iTunes. I've never bought a song in iTunes, but overall I find it easy to use, and works well once you configure it. I would say Songbird is the next best program I've used, but still prefer iTunes. I'm running Windows, though.

how is it trolling? i am frustrated with itunes, but keep on using it because i cannot find a good alternative on a Mac. I love the Mac software, I love having my macbook, i use iphoto and garageband and calendar and mail. however, i don't like itunes, i am not an apple fanboy, i will not praise Mac for its every endeavour, itunes lack of compatibility is frustrating.

the itunes 'store' is overpriced in comparison to just about every other online music store. but its not a huge deal, i don't mind looking elsewhere to buy my music and i am very sorry i brought it up, i'm more concerned about compatibility with items not beginning with i. However, 'presuming' that itunes is overpriced would mean that I don't know and am making an uniformed bias about itunes, but i'm not, itunes is actually, factually one of the most expensive places to buy digital music.

your post is presumptuous.

i agree that apple is overpriced, but you cannot get them for cheaper and i like it so i will pay the premium, but i can buy ceelo green's new album for £2 less at amazon than i can at itunes.
