I just got another shuffle after a good 5 years with the old one and I use it to run almost every day anyway I used to use rebuild_db.exe after adding and delete files in a normal explorer window but now when I do the ipod says : "please use itunes to sync with your ipod." So I assume rebuild_db.exe won't work with this new model. Are there any solutions that don't entail itunes install?

Also, shouldn't questions like this be directed to the Software for Windows section? I realize that is an Apple iPod Shuffle, but you are looking for new software to use with your Windows OS... just saying. I would imagine that many here (I could be completely wrong on this one) are using OS X for their iPod syncing needs.

Not that many options besides itunes... and for the shuffle itunes is almost the only option! I mean seriously for playlists to work right with shuffle I am pretty sure you have to use itunes.

Yes, I am an itunes fanboy. I see no problem with itunes except every now and then itunes store loads slow. But it is easy/simple to make ipod shuffle playlists via itunes.

Holy carp! A person that likes both Windows 7 and iTunes for Windows!!! Seriously, stop the presses, I think they need to hear from this man!

The Windows version is generally reviled, I really used to like it, but this was back in the age of like WM9 or something, 2004 or so. Since then I have switched to Mac and iTunes there is much better.

Isn't there some sort of WinAmp plugin, or does that work anymore?

I usually leave questions like this here as they are still related to apple products in general. I think we get a healthy amount of people in here who use Apple products, but don't necessarily use OSX, or like myself, use both OSX and Windows on a daily basis.

I've tried many alternatives (media monkey was pretty decent) but in the end, I just went back to iTunes. Count me as another Win7 user who doesn't have any problems with iTunes. One feature with newer versions of iTunes is the ability to downsample music, so you can keep music on your hard drive at a high bitrate, but have it copy it to your shuffle at a lower bit-rate.

Other decent programs that worked with older shuffles are floola, and SharePod. You can give both of those a try.

ITunes > ALL.

There is no better music organization software.

If I could buy a Zune and use Itunes with it, I would. It's too bad I'm stuck buying Ipods, which I really don't like much at all. I'm hoping the current one I have (I use it in my car) will last forever, and and I will never have to buy another one again.
