Are there any alternatives to neutering cats?

My cat Frank is going to get neutered tuesday and I was wondering if there was any way to save his manhood.

Sit down with him, give him a talk about responsibility, FIV, and hand him a pack of really small condoms and hope for the best.

Seriously, no option. Although I think there may be more subtle ways of doing it than the snip cats used to get. Our guy has nuts still, and has been known to hump things. He still acts like a Tom.

Learn to like the smell of cat piss?

But seriously, it's a harmless procedure. I love cats and I have no qualms about having it done.

The alternative is lots and lots and lots of kitties being run over, spreading desease and taking up resources of the animal control, humane society and the patience of your neighbors. FIX YOUR CAT!

Don't ever let him out of the house? Of course, he's going to spray your furniture to mark his territory, but it only stinks.

He'll never miss what he never really got to use. He probably will mainly remember the trip to the vet more than anything - my cats can't stand the car. The howling they make during the drive sounds like someone's declawing them while they're conscious.

You could probably ask the vet for Franks manhood and save it in a jar, no? As for alternatives to neutering. No. There are none. And it is a good choice you are making.

Sure, letting them breed out of control and having to euthanize a bunch of cute kittens.

Neutering will reduce your cat's suseptibility to testicular cancer (duh) which is very common in toms. Also, your cat's risk of acquiring feline leukemia and FIV drop substantially. Toms are more prone to most types of feline cancers as well as prostate problems than neutered males. So whack away.

No kidding. I'll go one step further and say why save a cat's manhood, IT'S A FREAKING CAT!!! You really think the cat is going to care one bit as soon as the pain stops?

BTW-I love cats. I've owned a few of them and all of them have been snipped.
