alternative to....

1. Geneal Hardware!
2. $40 is hardly insane. You spend $50 to get a USB soundcard equal to your average $30 one. If it is as sturdy as they say, I'd call $40 a proper price. In fact, if I have money after a Doom 3 ugrade, I might gt one.

Edit: missing letters replaced. My IBM model M is back is business, 20 years old and still clickity-clacking.

well, i was using this for a case mod... well, case creation is more like it.. heh. figured anyone who has gone for an HTPC may have found something other than this....

if i were just using analog out, i could just slap a pot in there and call it a day.. but noooo.. i gotta use digital 🙂

Well, there's bacially that, using another sound card, like the GameSurround Muse, which has a knob on the tob, or going with an expensive external sound solution, like the Audigy2 ZS Platinum, Extigy, etc. that have remotes.
External PC parts do cost too much...I won't disagree there. But they seem to universally cost too much, rather than it just being the good products.

I was afraid of that. Cost was a huge factor in my project. so all those options are out 🙂 Oh well.. I guess I'll have to settle for dummy knobs that don't do anything...
