I'm fairly certain that my MSI GTX460 Cyclone has bitten the dust. I was getting sporadic loss of signal lately and now I have none at all so i'm afraid that i'm in the market for a new video card asap. I'm trying to spend no more than $225 and achieve the same performance that the 460 had. I mainly spend my time playing Company of Heroes and other rts games with the occasional fps thrown in (Left 4 Dead 2, Call of Duty, etc.) So according to my hardware should I go with another 460 or venture into AMD's new 6xxx series?

If you need a card RIGHT THE HELL NOW (and it sounds like you do) then get the GTX460-1GB because they are on sale everywhere and equal to HD6850s which are not discounted yet.

Longer answer: GTX460-768 still has the best bang for the buck, but at your resolution you are going to want either a GTX460-1GB or HD6850. At stock the 6850 has a slight edge, but when both are overclocked they trade blows. You may want to look at how they perform in your favorite games at your resolution to see if either one has a relevant advantage in fps or settings. Potential tiebreakers include CUDA/PhysX support and power/heat/noise (HD6850 has a power draw advantage). Right now, except at Newegg, etailers are pricegouging on HD6850s, but once the dust settles the pricing of GTX460-1GB and HD6850 should be equal, making the HD6850 the slightly better deal.

If you can spare an extra $15, the 6870 is more on par with the 470 than the 460. However, if you can't, then the 6850 is more than a match for the 460 at ~$180-ish. Or, you could get another 460, but it's probably not worth it anymore. At least, not the 1GB version anyway. The 768MB version is still pretty competitive, though at a lower price point.

a alternative to the 460 is the 6850, its slightly faster (vs stock 460) in more or less anything.

The 6870 is the alternative to a cheap 470... they trade blows, usually with 470 winning by tiny bit.

I think the 6850 kills the 460.. unless you plan to overclock the hell out of the 460?
The 6850 is also very oc friendly, and with a oc without voltmods, can reach 470 levels.
