Alternative to skype??

Skype was a good free program to make video calls. Unfortunately microsoft got it and guess what it become worse :-( so is there a good alternative to that?

It has a built in back door now. It used to be secure, and now it isn't. If the choice was Skype or nothing, I'd pick nothing.

So don't use it for sensitive business or anything private. Anything in that ballpark is most likely looking for something a little more professional than Skype to begin with. Just because the backdoor is there doesn't make the software worthless, if the "man" wants to spy on me talking to my girlfriend while i'm on a business trip he's welcome to listen into all the cute anecdotes about what adorable thing my cat did yesterday.

My local italian restaurant has a back door too, inaccessible to the public but there if law enforcement/EMS or the staff need to use it. Doesn't mean the foods not worth eating.

Suit yourself, I prefer my private communication sans spyware. It doesn't matter what I'm talking about, it's between me and my partner.

After you posted this on the net, there will be some, who'll be working hard to make your communication not so private...
A lot of people - from anand tech users to up to people in goverment levels are obsessed with other people - what they say, write, tell others...

But I guess they must have been doing something wrong...along with those people the IRS fiasco revolved around, because our government never abuses their power at all unless someones doing something "wrong".

Google Hangouts is a pretty good alternative. Plus video chat with more than 2 people, up to 10.

You can do other neat things like YouTube Theater and such. Work on Documents together. Even Remote Desktop.
