alternative to SBC DSL??

Hello,
I am going to move to a new house in 6 month. I just found out that SBC DSL is not available since the area is new. Cable is too expensive for me. so if there is any alternative for broadband, I would like to hear about it. BTW, this new neighbor is in San Diego
