Alternative to Quicktime?

My camera forces us to have Quicktime in order to view its captured movies.

I HATE HATE HATE how quicktime has grabbed all MP3 playback, certain video types, etc. AND WILL NOT LET THEM GO no matter how many times I change file associations in Media Player and Quicktime both.

I want it gone, but I'll need to play Quicktime video somehow....

Look up QuickTime Alternative.

Nvm, you have file type associations problems. Try uninstalling Quicktime and using just media player classic.

What he said... QT Alternative + MPC.

Just note that QT Alternative COMES with MPC. If you want them separate, you need to get QT Alternative Lite, which does not come with MPC.

there are none, quick time alternative comes close but its still based on the same crappy code from apple which still makes your browser crash every chance it gets

I've never had a problem with quicktime stealing associations.

Everytime after I reformatted, quicktime only took the associations that would seem logical (mov, aac, pict, and a few other semi-obscure file extensions).

And I've never had QT have my browser crash... never. In fact, I prefer it when QT displays videos in my browser. Windows Media usually crashes my browser though...

Quicktime alternative uses a cd key from quicktime (yes there is a cd key even though there's no cd). This key has been blacklisted from many sites including apples movie trailers site. For your purposes it would probably work fine though.

Odd, I was just on that website last night and downloaded a 720p movie trailer using QuickTime Alternative's movie downloader.

When you guys say "Media PLayer Classic" you mean the Microsoft one? I've already gone up to the newest version... 🙁

What's VLC and how good is it?

yea just installed k lite codec pack and now it seems when you click to download their hd trailers it gives you the option of downloading and renaming to hdmov to use more efficiencient decoder than apples😛

That option may just have come from an updated QT/QTA and means using installed DirectShow decoders for such AVC/AAC content (particularly useful for DxVA) while continuing to use QT for other (mostly legacy).

With MPC, file formats are easily set so all MOV use DS or just an alternate extension such as HDMOV do -as prompted by the downloader.
