Alternative to Powerchute (APC battery backup program)

JEDI

Got a APC ES 600g.

installed Powerchute.
with just my computer plugged in, I have 131min of runtime!?

but it doesn't tell me the watts my computer is using.

any better software (free)?

Grab yourself some PowerPanel, it's bundled with CyberPower units but works all the same on APC and any other. It's good, lightweight, and powerful stuff.

Reinstall Powerchute. It does give you the information you want. I already posted a link to show you the screen that gives you the information.

I haven't used any software since Windows 7 came out. Just plug the usb cable from my APC in, Windows puts an icon in the task bar. It doesn't show wattage used, but everything else is available. And shut down options appear in the power options.

huh? I have win7 pro 64bit and it didn't do that.
I uninstalled powerchute, rebooted, and still don't have a Win7 ups app

(device mgr sees the apc ups though)

After removing Powerchute and rebooting, try moving the USB cable for UPS to another USB port. If it doesn't launch Windows' generic UPS support, I suspect it just means that Powerchute's installer hasn't removed everything.
