Hello, i have recently ordered all the parts necessary to build my first computer, except the video card, which im not sure on yet. The problem is, i purchased a pci-express motherboard, which means no agp slots. The problem lies in the fact that i would like to put the computer together now, but i dont have any spare pci video cards to connect a monitor to, all i have is older agp cards. Is there any alternative to get a monitor hooked up in my situation? All i need is someway to connect my monitor to my computer just to set up the bios and stuff until i purchase my pci express card.

PCI video cards are different than PCI-Express video cards. For the love of God, if a PCI video card can fit in a PCI-Express slot, don't plug one in there.

(apologies in advance if you knew that already - your post to me read like you were going to put an old PCI video card in the system to try and set it up)

You're kindof stuck unless you have an old PCI video card. I don't think you can stick a PCI card into the PCI-X slot, has anyone tried? That would be an interesting post to resolve.

Yes you can, it's backwards compatible but it will only run at PCI 33MHz speeds.

But that isn't always the case. They won't work without errors all of the time. My Promise SX6000 RAID controller HAD to be in a PCI slot. Would not function in a PCI-X, even if I manually set the bus speed to 33MHz.
Tas.
