Alternative to First Aid 97, 98, 2000?

Are there any diagnostic and/or file clean up utility programs available that don't take up 32 to 65 mb's of space on my hard drive? I like the concept behind the First Aid programs, but they take up so much space!!! Norton Utilities 2000 is even worse!! Plus they want anywhere from $19.95 to $45.00 for their programs. I would like to be able to clean up garbage files that take up unnecessary space on my hard drive, but the cost, both in price and the space required to load the program, is outrageous!
