Alternative to blogger?

I want to set up a blog again, but I can't get blogger to upload to my ftp. Are there any good alternatives?

My host is addaction, so there is php and mysql and jskdfhtmdl and so on, not that I know how to use that stuff.

 

What's the problem with Blogger and FTP? It works fine for me, there is nothing to it really. I have been looking at alternatives to Radio Userland and came across Blogger. It seems to do everything I want aside from creating RSS feeds.

You may want to go hardcore and just do PHPNuke straight up.

Yeh... when I moved from Dixiesys to 1and1, my Blogger couldn't upload anymore. Changed all the settings and though Blogger states that the upload has been successful, I don't see the changes.

Grey matter eh? The FTP upload does not work. There is nothing I can do about that. I do not want to learn to script. I like blogger because of the customization capability. Livejournal sites are all ugly for whatever reasons... I may just update the html file manually, but then there's no timestamp and such.

Try Movable Type. I downloaded it last night but was too tired to try and upload/configure it.

do you guys know of anything like this that will run on IIS (eg. asp with access database, or something that will run on IIS.

I don't think I want to use Movable Type. I don't know jack sh!t about databases and whatnot.

Edit: Just noticed they have a web based thing.

I signed up for the Movable Type trial, but it doesn't let you edit your templates 🙁.

Wordpress is great!

I personally use GeekLog.

 

I got movable type working from scratch. It looks like a winner. Grey Matter looks like a clone of it with less features. Either one is good if you can access stuff on your server.

3rd vote for GreyMatter. If you don't want to mess with SQL and have to debug a lot of stuff, then go with GM. All you have to do is edit some 4 files and you're ready to go.

Hmm. Grey Matter is cool and all, but how the hell do I CHMOD the files to 755? WS FTP shows them as 644, but there is no way to change them using the 3 digit code. I can't get SSH to connect to the server.
