I've noticed there are a lot of other site out there that have a alternative url thats formatted for more user friendly use on small screen devices like the Pocket PC, Palm's and phones (yahoo comes to mind)

Its actually pretty annoying to read the forums, you have to scroll a lot between each post in a thread.

Being that this is a tech site I'd think that of all places, here would have that sort of option as well.

BTW, PPC I have

Yeah, the forums are really horrid on pocket IE.

Perhaps try a third party browsing program such as thunderhawk

If there is enough demand, its a possibility. Although reading a forum on a 3" screen seems a little silly to me? (personal opinion). I just don't see the real need for it, but that is my own opinion.

Oh, it's kinda handy from time to time. My wife and I take turns running our daughter around to different rehearsals or practices and it's nice to be able to browse the forums while waiting for her to get done. It's a lot easier to throw my PDA in my pocket than to lug along a laptop.

But yes, navigating the forums with a PDA is a chore. Whether there's enough support behind the idea is another matter.

Exactly what I thought when I read the topic.

The need is when I'm in the woods...or in the bathroom...

It would be PDA-friendly enough if there were a way to turn off menus to the left...or at least move those menus to the right so they're displayed after the thread

Why anyone would wanna read the AT forums in the woods is beyond my understanding.
In the bathroom...just get a newspaper or something like the rest of us ;)

I was just about to offer the same suggestion since I check the Anandtech forums nearly everyday on my Axim (while in class, of course!). The current forums are definitely a pain in the ass to view in PocketIE. I for one would love a PPC formatted version.

I'd like to see it. I check out the Aximsite forums on my PDA quite a bit - it's not bad.

Actually, I remember years ago some AT user did something like this just for fun...before PDAs were big even.

Basically, it crawled the for sale forum's front page and output a web page that only had title and links to the thread so that it looked like:
and so forth. He had a special name for what type of file it was too...If I could remember that name, I could find it :(

I assume the same could be done for a thread's content and also wish I were savvy enough to make something like that :(

I often use my 9500 when at uni to browse the intarweb (simply because i don't have my laptop with me) and i thought that it would be interesting to do that as well

Add me as another who is interested in a PDA format friendly version of the AT forums. What really kills the PDA browsing experience is the quote feature.......but that kills the browsing experience on any browser and yet it still remains..........

The reason I would like to see it is because my Axim 50v has a wireless connection that does nicely on sites that are more PDA friendly. It is rather difficult to stuff my Dell 8500 laptop in my pocket. Not so with the Axim. This is one place where Anandtech is behind the times of technology.
