Question Alternative PDF Reader that allows folder search

I have been using Foxit for several years, but for some reason, it has gotten very slow for the past few years, mainly when starting the search function. I am not sure if it is being held up by my Mapped Network drives that are not always connected, or something else. But much of the time I use it, I am searching for a piece of info that could be in one of several PDFs.

I was going through a few different Free PDF readers, and while there are several different free options, the three I tried don't seen to have a search function beyond the current document.

Does anyone have any good alternatives to Foxit for a free PDF reader that will search beyond the current document? Or a possible workaround for Foxit's slowness?

I have never known windows search to pull up words/code inside a pdf. Browser will open a pdf, but not search for words/code without that pdf being manually opened already (that I have seen). The specific word/code I would be looking for is mentioned in multiple pdf's, buy I would be looking for the mention in the write context.

As long as indexing is in place, windows search is not too bad. you have to change the indexing option to index properties and file contents.
