I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to wire up some driving lamps on my XJ.

Here is how you are supposed to wire a relay:

Here is what I want to do:

The benefit is I only have to run one wire into the cab for the switch and then ground the switch on the chassis, instead of going from the battery to the switch back to the relay. As far as I can tell this would be exactly the same. The only way the relay is closed is when the electromagnet line is grounded through the switch.

Any reason not to do it this way?

You only need to run 1 wire from the Switch in the car to the Relay .. relay coils do not take a lot of
current and the Instrument Panel Lamp circuit can easily provide it. Or tap into the taillights fuse
You pickup the +12V for the Switch from the Instrument Panel Lamp fuse
They come on when you put the Parking or Headlamps on and doing it this way serves two purposes:

1): In most states, your parking lights must be on with either Driving or Fog Lights

2): This way, when you shut off your parking or headlamps your aux lights go OFF
which will stop the chance of leaving them ON and killing your battery.

I was thinking about that too but I figured I could get the headlight power from the fuse box more easily. I'm not sure what the wiring is like behind my dash. The previous owner wired up some Hella offroad lights, and there is only one wire
