Alternative laptop power source?

Hey All,

I've got an question about a laptop I've got. I hoped the experts here might be able to give me a few tips. I've got an HP ZE4530, model DP460U. The input for power on the back of the laptop is broken. I'm wondering if there is a way to get power from an alternative source , such as through USB?

I know I can recharge the battery with an external charger, but that only leaves me with a limited amount of time to use the laptop before I have to take it out and charge it again. Also, I'd like to avoid buying a replacement motherboard as it'll cost upwards of 300-350.

Anyone have suggestions? Thanks.

I have replaced power jacks on notebook mobos and power supplies. Not easy (some are easier than others), but it can be done... Other options aren't very pretty.

Take it to a Mom & Pop computer repair shop and ask them for an estimate. If you're lucky, the jack just came loose from the PC board and can be soldered back. Worth $75 - $125 in labor to fix it. If the mobo isn't actually cracked, then it shouldn't cost much. However, some laptops are harder to work on than others.
