I am kind of curious. "If" Bioware were to actually recant and go back to the drawing board on a theoretical DA3 (which won't happen). If they were to start again from the DA:O engine with a PC only title with intent to upgrade and improve DA:O based on feedback from the community on what worked and what didn't work (from both the DA:O and DA2 forums), including writers from the original. And given adequate development time rather than a railroaded "Set me up for failure" timeline. Also given appropriate upgrades to the graphics engine to be comparable "within reason" to other games at release.

If all of this increasingly impossible suppostion were to happen, would any of the player base at least test drive the "New" game? Or has Bio totally torpedoed that line for ever and all time in your mind?

Just to clarify, there is no chance this will happen (that I am aware of). Please let's not discuss and debate how "Likely" it is and focus on "If it did (in an alternate reality)".

Yes, I would spend more time investigating their claims to see if it's true. Wouldn't buy it without question based on their word alone though. Those days are over.

I absolutely would give it a shot. I wouldn't preorder or get it on release (don't do that for 99% of my purchases anyway), but I wouldn't completely ignore it because of DA2. Honestly, even if they made DA3 in the same vein as DA2, I would give that a look as well. I think individual games should be taken on their own merit and an entire series shouldn't be ignored because you were disappointed by one game.

DA2 wasn't even DA2, it was really a stupid spinoff. It wasn't even about the Wardens. DA3 just needs to be about the Wardens, the Darkspawn, Morrigan, and to go back to DA:O mechanics.

I would be extremely cautious.

I'm not buying ME3 at launch anymore, and I wouldn't buy DA3 at launch either.

If they made a true sequel to Origins, then yes I would buy it. I will not buy another game like DA2.

And I actually liked a lot of the stuff they did in DA2, but there were fatal flaws aplenty. I have no problem with "more action oriented" combat, from the sounds of it this new game Kingdoms of Amalur will have action-y combat but still be a true RPG. True RPG's take years to craft, so any potential "DA3" had better still be a ways off or we'll just be stuck with the same nonsense we got in DA2.

It's funny you should mention Amalur. I have been watching that for a little while and have high hopes that it will be something worth looking into.

If they went back to the roots of the original game which in turn has its roots in Baldurs gate and alike, I may very well pick it up. I loved Dragon Age Origin, I think it's one of the best of games of recent years for that very reason, I bought it and played through the singleplayer which took about 70 hours, some of the most enjoyable gaming in the last few years for sure.

DA2 I borrowed from a friend, played for about an hour and uninstalled, for sure it's tarnished the franchise as a whole and that's a massive shame, but from what I understand the story in DA2 is fucking useless and a waste of time so I'm not sure it would deter me from picking up DA3 if it went back to its roots.

It won't happen though, it's impossible to go back, not 1 single developer that started on the right foot with a decent PC title has consolized the franchise then successfully returned from that. EADICE were set to do that with BF3 but after seeing some of that tonight first hand and seeing how laughably bad it is even compared to BC2 it's blatant that they were all talk to get the PC gamers on board, nothing more than a clever PR move.

I actually pre-ordered DA2 because I loved DA:O so much. I played through to the second "time" break and lost interest. A couple of months later I figured i would give it a second try. Again I played through to the second break and stopped.

The reason i started this thread is that I have seen a lot of people (myself included) that seem to think the decisions made for DA2 killed the franchise. I wanted to see if everyone thought that or if it was just a few.

I also kind of wonder if marketing people for various companies actually pay any attention to these threads as a kind of "Free" market research tool. Even if that is the case, I am sure that one thread on one board would not make a hill of beans to them. But I can hope and dream, can't I?

Watch the History of Bethesda on Youtube and you'll find that you are incorrect :)

I fail to see how Bethesda could be an example of this..their games become more and more console oriented each generation....

I hate to say it and I don't say it lightly however Bioware is no longer on my instant-buy top dev list. I have so many backlogged games and so many devs that are doing things much more interestingly. If they release a DA3 it will get the same treatment as when they release an ME3 - I will play it when the price drops, months down the road. The same treatment Dungeon Siege 3 got, the same treatment I will give the new Alice game and anything else mildly interesting but not done well enough to risk paying anywhere near full price for.

It isn't that I'm cheap, it is that I've finally wised up.

I didnt play DA2 until after the patches so I didnt have to deal with any major bugs, but I have to say I enjoyed playing the game much more than I enjoyed awakenings. Was it a perfect game, well no, but then neither was DAO. For me the worst part of DA2 was that anders was still around even though I ended my awakenings game with him dead (which I did on purpose so I would never have to see him again)

I never did get why so many people cant stand the game. The story I understand may not be for everyone seeing as its not your standard hero on a mission story, but I thought the combat system was much improved in DA2 over DAO. With DAO playing a rogue or warrior I pretty much just remember getting to use my 3 or 4 skills once and then being out of stamina for the rest of the fight and auto attacking, I started to really get bored with the combat long before I got even close to the end. In DA2 it kept me entertained all the way through the game, I even thought the waves were a nice pleasant change giving the fights a bit of an element of a gamble, should I blow through long cooldown skills early or save them for a potentially harder wave.

I will almost certainly play DA3 when it comes out, but then I know people that enable me to get the games cheap even at release so its really not a big gamble anyways
