The two are so alike in using like name
I think labtec produce better quality speakers for cheaper price
I've heard from a friend that altec is the best but when I heard it myself, it wasn't crystal clear and so I tend to pick brands that are labtec and avoid altec
Bought it once and ebay it a month later :brokenheart:

wanna talk about the superior technology used in cheap computer speakers?

I always thought labtec were one of those companies that made cheap speakers that came with puchasing a whole new PC, well at least I havent seen any of their speakers cost over $50. Altec though IIRC used to be a big name in the audio industry back in the days.

Yes, Labtec is NOT a highly regarded speaker/headphone/microphone, etc. manufacturer - strictly low end and is now a division of Logitech anyways... Some models of Altec are pretty chintzy but when you get up into the over $50. category, their stuff will blow Labtec's away. Altec-Lansing has been making quality speakers and other audio equipment since before most of the frequenters of this forum were born - It's likely that when you go to a theater you are listening to at least some A-L commercial grade speakers...

. That being said, my computer speakers are a pair of Labtec Spin 70s, which are better than the ones that replaced them. But lacking real tweeters, the sound is a bit nasal as will be found in all speakers that lack true tweeters (1" or smaller in diameter), but its tolerable because I got them for free 😉.

.bh.

I got some altec 5.1 speakers from a boxing day sale for 50 dollars shipped. No complaints, but nothing near my logitech z-5300's I have hooked up to my dvd player.

IMHO, Labtec seems to be on the cheaper low end side of the computer speaker market while Altec Lansing speakers has some of the higher audiophile type for high end users.

LOL!! Uh right! Hey its your money. If you want to piss it away on a clearly inferior product thats your business. I have never heard a labtec speaker set that was even remotely comparable to Altec Lansings.

If you feel that way, why did you even ask? Altec has been around before your father was born. Labtec is a Cheep copy.

Sorry, but If you do not want the truth you should not ask.

ROTFLMAO! 😀

heh - it's nice that you are happy with your Labbies, really it is. But seriously, in terms of the budget range, there are at least 2 manufacturers which warrant serious consideration, namely Altec Lansing and Logitech. We aren't even going to mention Klipsch et al b/c that's in another league.

Personally I own a set of Altec Lansing 3151s - they were my 2nd choice to a comparable Logitech 5.1 setup but I got them for $80 new, a pretty good deal. Give some Logies or ALs a listen, you won't be disappointed.
