goddamnit i read about twenty reviews and not one, NOT A SINGLE DAMN ONE mentions the fact that these speakers hiss so badly. i do a search in google for altec 5021 and hiss and hey prestro every review i see says they hiss arrrghgh.

is there a way to stop the hiss. ive turned the treble right down which helps but it really is unbearable man.

Are you sure it's the speaker and not the sound card, or cable, or you mic?

1. Mute your mic
2. Try listening with headphones
3. Lower your master volume (both PC and the speaker)
4. Check cable
5. Check for any strong radio devices near vicinity of your speaker, e.g. mobile phone

Have you tried lowering the volume that your system outputs to the speakers? I had a problem with my speakers when i first got them, but i reduced the output from my computer, and let the amp (in the sub) do most of the work, and now they're fixed.
