i'm not much of a sound freak and i'm using my motherboard sound. i have a 2.1 setup currently and i've noticed these speakers for a very cheap price of $50. before i had my eyes set on a logitech 5.1 system but for $50 these seem like the ones to get. does anyone have these or has anyone heard anything about them?

If for some reason you can't have the rear speakers in a normal 5.1, this would be adequate. If you have the space/setup for the actual rears, go with the logitech.

when u have true 5.1 the back speakers have to be located somewhere in the back of the room correct? do they have wires that go accross the room?

Yeah... the 5.1 speakers have to be positioned behind you, and you need cables that are strewn across the room. The G5051 is good for not having rear speakers, but it bounces off of walls. Which means it might not work as well if you have large open spaces.

Yeah, they're connected by wires like the vast majority of 5.1 sets out there.

They're about the size of the cable on your mouse or keyboard, or any RCA cable.

hmm since its not my room that the computer is in(damn parents not letting me put it in my room....thats another topic lol) i dont want all these wires around the place. so i'm thinking that the altec might be best for me since it saves space.

Or you could just go with a more competently designed stereo setup, if you can't have true surround.
